Rain Water Harvesting at Lourdes Central School

 

RWH(Rain Water Harvesting) project as part of GSP(Global School Partnership),general studies and Decennial Celebration of Lourdes Central School was inaugurated by Shankar Bhat, Mayor, Mangalore City Corporation on 1st August-09 at Bejai Church Hall . J R Lobo, Deputy project director of KUDCEMP-Mangalore, many other dignitaries and parents attended the inaugural ceremony.

Principal of Lourdes Central School , Ms Grace Noronha welcomed the gathering. Mr Ivan Monteiro, the parent convenor of the project briefed the gathering about the objective of the project, how to conserve and save the precious water and replenish it back to the source. Students of Lourdes Central School presented a miming and powerpoint presentation on RWH. Ms Joy Rai, the Vice Principal and the GSP Coordinator proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Under the guidance of Rev Fr J P Tauro Manager of LCS who is also an environmentalist, the convenor of the project Ms Violet D'Souza, Mr Ivan Monteiro and the GSP Coordinator Ms Joy Rai, students of Lourdes Central School have implemented RWH at the school campus. As part of its activities, drawing, painting , quiz and slogan/poster making competitions are organised at the campus. Students of Lourdes Central School will present a street play on RWH at various locations in Mangalore such as in front of DC's office, Mahanagar Palika, Urwa Store, Big Bazaar and Thokkotu Junction in the month of August.

The RWH apparatus was inaugurated by Rev. Fr J P Tauro, Manager LCS and Mr J R Lobo deputy project Director KUDCEMP at the School Campus. Parents and students witnessed the same.Mr J R Lobo also said that if the water is not conserved now, the future generation will not get this precious source.He also added that it is the duty of every individual to harvest water as it is the elixir of life.
