Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D' Souza visited Lourdes Central School Bijai, Mangalore on Friday January 24 in the morning at about 8 am . He was accompanied by the Bijai parish priest and the manager of Lourdes Central School Fr J P Tauro.
The Bishop was welcomed in a traditional way with the school band and a guard of honour from guides, bulbuls, scouts and cubs along with the Indian tradition of Arathi and Kumkum and also with a melodious welcome song composed specially for the occasion.
The programme began with the vice principal J Rai, speaking on the reminisce of the school. The school children recited the universal prayer and invoked God's blessings through a prayer song. The principal Grace Noronha welcomed the Bishop and gave a brief report on the outstanding milestones of the school. The manager Fr J P Tauro congratulated the Bishop for the success of the school and the educational institutions.
In his speech, the Bishop congratulated the management, staff and students of the school on its decennial year, saying that Lourdes Central School is the first school under the management of Catholic Board of Education which has won national and international acclaim and is also the first school to get the ISA award in Dakshina Kannada. He also stressed on the need to strive for academic excellence and imparting of value based education. He also thanked the parents for their support and co-operation.
The students of Class XI presented a play, ‘Peace' depicting the evils of today and showed us the ways we can overcome these evils. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Belita Mascarenhas and School Anthem.
The Bishop later inaugurated the prayer hall ‘Dhyana Jyothi' in the school and had an interaction with the staff and later visited the newly constructed Kindergarten and lower primary block.
The assistant parish priests of Bijai church Fr Naveen D' Souza and Fr Ajith Menezes, vice president of Bejai Parish council Joseph Nazareth, vice president of PTEC Vivian Sequiera, and members of PTEC including the past presidents of Parents Teachers Association were present on the occasion.
