Leadership Cannot Be Given, It Must Be Earned

The investiture ceremony is one of the first momentous occasions of the school where the parliament is officially vested with their powers and positions. It is a solemn occasion where the young students are prepared to don the mantle of leadership and discharge the responsibilities entrusted upon them by the school.

Lourdes Central School had organized the investiture ceremony for the academic year 2016-17 on 18th June 2016 at the school roof top Auditorium. The event began at 8:30 am.  The programme began with a prayer song by the students of class XII. The gathering was welcomed by Divina Ann Philipose of class XII A, followed by the introduction of the guests by Meghna Pinto of class XII B. Lighting of the lamp signifies removal of darkness. Continuous upward movement of the flames denotes the path of wisdom and divinity. The traditional lamp lighting ceremony was held and the Manager along with the Principal, Vice Principal, Cabinet in-charge Ms Anita Thomas and Mr Henry Mascarenhas, teacher representative Ms Roshni Jose and student representative Keith Veigas lit the lamp.

Forty two worthy students were sworn in as members of the school cabinet. The Chief Guest and the Vice Principal inducted the newly elected and selected student representatives with badges and sashes, while the Principal lead the oath taking ceremony.

Shravan Premraj of class XII was appointed as the Secretary and Suhan of class XI as the Speaker. This year there were 2 additional posts of Deputy Head boy and Deputy Head Girl which were given to Lenson Saldanha and Vibha K P of class X. The young leaders have promised that they will uphold the values of the school and keep Lourdes Central School’s flag flying high while discharging their duties honestly and impartially.

The Principal spoke on the occasion and asked the gathering to cheer the newly elected Cabinet. He said that there are plenty of opportunities to cultivate leadership qualities in the School and asked students to be courageous, brave, truthful and value personal principles. He congratulated the members of the Parliament and urged them to standardize discipline and practice before preaching.

Rev. Fr. Wilson L Vitus D’souza addressed the assemblage, congratulated the Parliament members and said it was a great day for LCS. He told the Cabinet to be a role model to others, use their powers wisely, bring discipline, stand for truth and justice and do their duties. He told them to be polite and explained it with an anecdote. He asked the Opposition to give constructive criticism and appreciate the good work of the ruling.

The ceremony was held with lots of enthusiasm and gusto. The event was concluded with words of gratitude by the newly sworn in Head Boy who thanked the gathering for their participation throughout the programme. It was a memorable day for the students and faculty members of Lourdes Central School.
